Oculus virtual reality at Bluevista

Before we show you what we made — what is an Oculus? Quite simply, a virtual reality headset. Built to begin with for gaming, it turns out to serve a great many other uses, as you are about to see.

All right, we admit it: we started by playing. But we moved on to serious matters soon enough. We drew up a list of possible uses, and the first idea we kept was 360° video immersion.

So we got hold of a 360° rig for six GoPro Hero 3+. Once everything was stitched and encoded into a 360° film, it was time to test — starting with a 360° player, but online.

After that we tried 360° players that work with the Oculus. Excellent — except that at Bluevista we are only really satisfied once we have managed to build the thing ourselves. So we went for Unity 3D, to leave room for other ideas that had come out of our brainstorming. More on those another time.
